With a thread you can clothe the world. An unbroken thread can create cavities, structures, and infinite patterns.

KNITS BY THE METRE is a fairly new Swedish company started in 2006 by designers Ulrika Mårtensson and Margot Barolo. They have worked together on several projects involving product development and design, as well as art projects.

Ulrika Mårtensson is a renowned, award-winning textile designer, artist and architect who has successfully completed a large number of assignments for clients which include the Swedish Governmental Art Council, Kinnasand, and Ludvig Svensson. She has an Master of Fine Arts from Konstfack, the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.

Margot Barolo is a well known and award-winning product designer and artist, working with textile, furniture and home products for companies such as Svenskt Tenn, Ittala, Iris Hantverk, and Bamford. She studied at  Beckman’s School of Design.

KNITS BY THE METRE – a brand that stands for just that - knitted textiles by the meter. We produce modern knitted textiles for interiors. This year we are also proud to present knitted products, in addition to new textiles by the metre!

Our ambition is for all of our textiles to be characterized by a tactile sense of material, a modern and bold, yet beautiful, design, and to possess the ability to communicate the playful atmosphere of experimentation and joy that has been created as the product was being developed. KNITS BY THE METER wants to bring new ideas on how to use textiles.

When developing its first collection, KNITS BY THE METRE worked very closely with a few select manufacturers, bringing modern technology into a new field. Many of the products combine expression, structure and effects not seen before.
