“I look for things which have found their form stretched to the limit of what is expected.  There the expression is clarified and has become precise and specific.  These objects have a strong sense of presence and calm intensity. Poetry and function are united in utility objects. New angles of approach and solutions. In objects lacking a usefulness, all efforts have been put into the statement. Subtle, fragile, strong or rhythmic.”

Pia Törnell works as a product designer and ceramist.  Following her basic art studies in the School for Art Education and the Art Program at Birkegården Folk High School 1984-1987, she continued on to receive a Master in Fine Arts in ceramics and glass from the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design.

Her work spans from practical and functional mass produced objects to freer forms of pure artistic expression.

She has designed products for Rörstrand, Arabia, Hackman, and Hammarplast.  The Architecture Museum and Teaching University, both in Stockholm, have walls clad with tiles which she designed and produced.  She has also participated in several exhibitions with her unique ceramic objects.

Today Pia and her husband operate a ceramic workshop in Kinnekulle in Västergötland, Sweden. They develop, make and sell a series of ceramic objects under the name StudioK.
